Vancouver General Hospital (VGH) is part of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH). Gynaecologic emergencies are seen in the ER here and emergency gynaecologic surgeries are done in the Operating Room (OR). Some elective (planned) surgeries occur at VGH as well.

Vancouver General Hospital

VGH is where Drs. Bélanger, Branco, and Brunner provide emergency medical and surgical gynaecologic care. It is also an additional site for some elective major (in-patient) surgeries, particularly for patients with more complicated medical or surgical needs who require tertiary care. Most gynaecologic oncologic (cancer) operations also take place here.

Vancouver General Hospital is located in a huge complex bordered by W 10th Ave to the North, W 13th Ave to the South, Laurel St. to the West and Heather St. to the East. If you have a gynaecologic emergency, you will be entering the hospital via the ER, located at 920 W 10th (at Laurel St.). If you are having elective surgery at VGH, the operating room is located on the second floor in the Jim Pattison Pavilion, which can be accessed by the Main Entrance at 855 W 12th (at Laurel St.).

There is a parkade across from the Jim Pattison Pavilion on W 12th Ave, but it is often full unless you get there very early. Another option is the parkade at the Diamond Health Care Centre (DHCC) across from the hospital on Laurel St. There is also metered parking around the site.

When your surgery is booked, you will receive a booklet with detailed instructions regarding your procedure.
