OB

We provide complete maternity care for both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, as well as consultative services for other primary care providers, such as family physicians and midwives.

Deliveries take place at our affiliate hospitals.  In addition to normal births, our Obstetricians are trained in operative vaginal deliveries (vacuum and forceps) and C-sections.

To see one of our OBs, you must obtain a referral from your primary care provider (GP, walk-in-clinic, midwife). You can request the OB of your choice, or we can assign one to you. Please consider where you wish to deliver when choosing your OB and note that there are restrictions for delivery at BC Women’s Hospital.

You can facilitate the referral process by ensuring that your referring provider has completed our checklist (arranged a dating ultrasound, basic prenatal labwork, and discussed prenatal genetic screening) before your first appointment here. We are happy to review genetic screening options at your first appointment, but many tests are time-sensitive, and we do rely on referring providers to start the process when referrals are sent in late.

All of your prenatal visits will take place at our clinic, and delivery will be at the hospital where your OB is affiliated. In order to provide seamless 24/7 maternity care, we all work in on-call groups which include certified OBs from other offices. This means that the Cross Roads OB you see during your pregnancy may not be the one attending your birth, and a female provider at delivery cannot be guaranteed, even if your OB is female.

The OB Group is the on-call group at BC Women’s. Please visit our website, which has a wealth of information on pregnancy, prenatal care and delivery.

GYN

We provide diagnosis and treatment for all gynaecologic conditions, including menstrual disorders, fibroids, pelvic pain, ovarian disorders, infertility, incontinence and prolapse.

We have Gynaecologists with additional expertise in infertility, urogynaecology, and gynaecologic infectious diseases.

We also offer well-woman gynaecologic care, including contraception, menopause and osteoporosis counselling.

In-clinic services we provide include Pap screening, IUD insertion, office hysteroscopy, and pessary fitting and maintenance care.

At our affiliate hospitals, we provide major and minor gynaecologic surgery, including minimally-invasive surgery.

To see one of your GYNs, you must be referred by your primary care provider (GP or walk-in-clinic). You can request the GYN of your choice, or we can designate the soonest available provider best suited for your needs. Wait times vary based on diagnosis, and waits are significantly longer with female providers.

You can facilitate the referral process by ensuring that your referring provider has clearly indicated the reason for the referral and included all of the necessary documents (lab tests, ultrasounds, reports of prior consultations or operations).

You will be asked to fill out a new patient form when you arrive for your in-person consultation. If your initial visit is by telephone, the form will be e-mailed to you, and you must return it to us prior to the appointment.

If you are coming in for a procedure such as an endometrial biopsy or IUD insertion, it is helpful if you take a pain-killer (eg. ibuprofen/Advil or acetaminophen/Tylenol) 30-60 minutes prior to your appointment.

If you are coming in for an IUD, and you know which type you want, you can ask your referring doctor to prescribe it, so that you can bring it to your appointment for a single visit process. If you are not sure, we will arrange a consultation (in person or by telephone) and book a separate visit for the procedure.
